Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM (CT)
On Saturday September, 12th 2009, Rebecca Rebouche
will teach a half day introduction to Drawing in Nature.
This is your chance to take the pressure off of creating a finished piece of artwork, and return to really seeing the natural world. We will approach drawing from the perspective of artist, explorer, student, botanist, traveler, gardener. This is a class for all skill levels that focuses on documentary-style drawing with just a pencil and sketchbook. The point is not how accurate it is, the point is: Are you really looking? Exercise your visual muscles by going from tiny leaf to big tree to entire landscape.
Time: 9:00am-1:00pm
Meeting Location: Round Pavillion overlooking water on Magazine St. side of Audubon Park
General Introduction: Rebecca will give a 30 minute introduction to drawing in nature, including showing examples and giving an overview of techniques.
Sketching: We will explore the natural environment of Audubon Park and record in our sketchbooks.

Who should attend:
From beginner to advanced, I invite all skills levels to come and work at a pace that suits you. Everyone is sure to learn something and be provided an environment that nudges you out of your funk.
Who should not attend:
Spouses, friends, children, colleagues, relatives who are NOT interested in drawing might be bored in our workshop.
What to Bring:
It is recommended to keep your supplies simple in order to focus on the techniques and environment. The focus of this workshop is drawing as a traveler, gardener, explorer, student, botanist would. You will need a bound sketchbook with high-quality drawing paper that is a comfortable size to hold in one hand while you sketch with the other. Bring an assortment of pencils, erasers, and pens. You have the option of bringing a small assortment of colored pencils if you wish, but again, the focus is on documentation and not the finished product. These are the sketches you would bring back to the studio to use for a painting or sculpture. It will be helpful to have a bag, apron or pocket to hold extra pencils, a sarong or towel to sit on, and a water bottle to stay hydrated. Also, wear your "play-clothes". When you are not afraid to get dirty is usually when the best art happens.
What about bad weather?
We will go rain or shine. Weather is an important part of being an artist/explorer. If it looks like rain bring a rain jacket, umbrella. When it rains hard, we will look for covered locations.
